VISET Malta p.l.c. is a privately owned company which took over the responsibility of passenger handling services in Valletta from the Government through an agreement signed in November 2001. The concession is for a 65-year lease period. VISET's core business centres around servicing the five berthing facilities for calling cruise ships, passenger handling operations for turnarounds and passenger and vehicle ferry operations at Valletta's Grand Harbour. Valletta Harbour, a natural all weather port, poses no serious manoeuvring difficulties to cruise vessels, including the large new vessels currently under construction. Port services include bunkering, emergency ship repair facilities, chandelling and other husbandry services, on a 24-hour, 365 days a year basis. VISET is the prime engine of the Valletta Waterfront Project and is committed to investing 25m euros on the regeneration of the historic Grand Harbour. This will give the island a state-of-the art new facility that fits sympathetically into the unspoilt historic setting of the walled city of Valletta. By providing new port infrastructure, including a new cruise terminal, the port of Valletta is hoping to increase its turnaround business which is growing every year. Malta has all the necessary ingredients for a successful turnaround operation. Malta's geographical location in the centre of the Med gives cruise lines an opportunity to promote east, central and west bound cruises even during winter as the climate is very favourable; Malta International Airport is only 15 minutes away from the seaport; Valletta offers a vast range of hotel facilities including 5 star luxury hotels for pre- and post stays; Malta Cruise Network can facilitate the whole range of services required for home-porting and last, but not least, Malta offers cruise passengers a unique experience.
