President George Abela today (Tuesday 9 March) paid a courtesy visit to VISET Malta plc and the Valletta Waterfront.
VISET Chairman Dr Anton Micallef showed President Abela round the VISET offices and the Valletta Waterfront which accommodates 32 tenants for offices, catering and retail outlets, and introduced him to the directors, members of staff and tenants.
The Port of Valletta was recently awarded Best International Port in the Mediterranean by Excellence Cruise Awards for 2010. Next year, 2011, will mark the first homeporting operation by TUI Cruises.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, VISET Chairman Dr Anton Micallef presented President Abela with a donation for the Malta Community Chest Fund.
On congratulating and praising the directors and the staff for their sterling and consistent work, President Abela said the synergy among the private sector was a strategic entrepreneurship which led to a successful project that transformed the port area. "This improvement not only benefits the vessels going through the Port of Valletta but is a significant contributor to the Maltese economy. Despite the global critical situation in tourism, this sector has kept the ball rolling," said President Abela. He also recalled Pope John II's comment when he visited Malta and said that the entrance into Malta through the Grand Harbour was his best experience on the island. "Such a quote which travelled the world further confirmed the Harbour's significance on the world map," he said.
