Two cancellations in December, were the primary reason for a drop in cruise passenger movements during December.  During the month, Valletta Cruise Port, handled 15,686 cruise passenger movements, compared to 24,060 in December, 2010.

During 2011, there was also an increase in the number of cruise calls.  A total of 311 cruise ships called in Valletta, compared to 275, during the previous year.

For the first time, a cruise ship, the P&O Adonia, stayed in the Grand Harbour, for New Year’s Eve.  A fireworks display entertained the guests on board the ship, whilst other guests joined in the celebrations in Valletta, Floriana and the Valletta Waterfront.
