Valletta Waterfront tenant, FXDD to sponsor the Malta FA once again

The Malta FA has started the year on an auspicious note after renewing their sponsorship agreement with FXDD, a Valletta Waterfront tenant, for another two years.

FXDD, the Forex trading specialists, have become synonymous with the Malta team since becoming the platinum sponsors of the national sides two years ago. Norman Darmanin Demajo, the Malta FA president, spoke in glowing terms about the association’s progressive relationship with FXDD.

“This is the biggest sponsorship the national team has,” Darmanin Demajo, flanked by Ivan Mizzi, the MFA treasurer, told a news conference at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. “When I became president of the MFA three years ago, the national team hadn’t had a sponsor for a very long time.

“Our meeting with FXDD was almost accidental as they were discussing an agreement with the referees. We outlined our requirements and they immediately showed an interest. To be honest, I was surprised as, at the time, I didn’t think that an international company would sponsor the national team of Malta. From the first day we met, FXDD have been very professional. The Malta branch is ably led by Fiona Soler and I’ve been impressed with the way they conduct their business. Together, we have not only honoured the conditions of the contract but took other initiatives that were not in the agreement.”

FXDD’s confirmation as platinum sponsors of the Malta team comes a few weeks before the draw of the Euro 2016 qualifying round, to be held in Nice on February 23rd.

As the sponsorship encompasses Malta’s representative teams at all levels, the agreement constitutes a significant boost for the MFA before it hosts the UEFA U-17 Championship in May. “This year we have a huge challenge as the MFA will organise the UEFA Under-17 Championship in May,” Darmanin Demajo said.

“In this context, it was also important for us to confirm this sponsorship which will also enable us to consolidate the good work of our technical centre.”

Darmanin Demajo said the sponsorship deal has also enhanced exposure for FXDD in other European countries.

“There is the international aspect as, with this sponsorship, FXDD are reaching other markets in Europe in terms of exposure,” Darmanin Demajo said. “It’s a win-win situation for both parties.”

Soler expressed her delight at the renewal of the agreement. “We at FXDD acknowledge the efforts of the Malta FA to cultivate the national teams and to promote youth football,” Soler said. “This work has also had a big impact on the country as a whole.”

The first two years of the MFA-FXDD partnership featured some notable highlights, especially the home game against Italy in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

Fan engagement has been an integral part of this partnership with the creation of a Fan Park for the Malta-Italy qualifier last March proving a massive hit with supporters. “The Fan Park was a success,” Soler said. “The exposure was very good and we were very pleased with the turnout.”

Darmanin Demajo is hoping that Malta will be drawn against another European heavyweight, the likes of Italy, England, Germany or Spain, in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

“The Fan Park was packed from 4pm right until kick-off (Malta vs Italy),” Darmanin Demajo said. “It was a big success and we were fortunate to get such a good draw. If we are lucky again in the next draw, I hope we will be able to embark on more fan-targeted initiatives like we did for the game against Italy when the National Stadium was full.”
